About the Philadelphia Maneto Award

Celebrating Civic Virtue and Unity

March 27, 1895, marks the birth of the Philadelphia Civic Flag, America's first official city flag. Each year, on this date, the Philadelphia Civic Flag Day Celebration honors individuals who exemplify the flag's message, "PHILADELPHIA MANETO" (Let Brotherly Love Continue), through their actions reflecting Peace, Hope, Justice, and Prosperity.

During a vibrant public ceremony, awardees receive the prestigious Philadelphia Maneto Award, which includes a plaque, a commemorative flag, and a $2,700 prize (per March 27th!) for each of the four categories.

Highlighting the celebration, awardees also raise the anniversary flag on a majestic flagpole amidst cheers from fellow citizens—a symbolic and inspiring event that underscores their contributions to the 'Philadelphia Maneto Spirit' of Philadelphia.

The Ceremony and Award

Contribute to the betterment of Philadelphia by embodying the 'Philadelphia Maneto Message' represented by our civic flag. That powerful message is:

Philadelphia Maneto (let brotherly love continue) through Peace, Hope, Justice and Prosperity for all!

Nominations open annually on March 27th and close on December 31st.
